Dropbox
File storage and sharing tool
Who is Google Drive best for according to our reviewers?
Musicians: Google Drive is beneficial for musicians who need to safeguard their files. It offers a large amount of free space and the ability to share files with bandmates and others. However, the compression of files can reduce media quality
Professionals in need of secure file storage and collaboration: Google Drive offers a secure platform for storing and sharing files, with the ability to access documents from any device. It also allows for easy collaboration, with the ability to share entire folders and manage file permissions. However, collaboration with users without a Google account can be challenging
Small business owners: Google Drive is a useful tool for small businesses, allowing for the sharing and editing of documents among team members. It integrates well with Windows and Android devices, and offers a cost-effective solution for storage needs. However, managing shared documents can be difficult
Students: Google Drive is a reliable system for students, offering substantial storage space and easy file sharing. However, the recent switch from unlimited storage to only 15GB of free storage can be frustrating, as it can prevent the sending or receiving of emails, editing documents, or uploading new files once the limit is reached
Remote workers: Google Drive is an excellent solution for remote work, offering ease of use in creating, uploading, and storing files that can be accessed globally on any device. It also offers real-time editing options across Google products, facilitating smooth collaboration. However, the default access level can be restrictive, requiring manual changes to editor-level access each time a file is shared.

Google Docs: Your Data Isn't Truly Yours
I'm dissatisfied with Google Docs as they seem to want to keep my data. Despite interacting with five different support representatives, they haven't been able to help me retrieve my data. Their tool, Google Takeout, is ineffective as entire folders with hundreds of files are missing. The files can only be opened with the account they were created with, making it impossible to transfer them. I'm considering going back to Microsoft, where I have full ownership and control over my Word documents.

Cloud Storage Swap: A Better Deal?
In my view, Google Drive provides the best value for money and outperforms other popular choices. I find it more user-friendly, particularly when it comes to syncing on PC and mobile devices. I enjoy the comfortable view setting and the simplicity of moving folders on the app. However, there are areas that need improvement. The search function could be enhanced, as could the detection of duplicate files. The filter function also requires significant improvement. I wish more extensions were compatible with Google Drive. I opted for Google Drive because it's the easiest to use. My team tested it and found that sharing folders is straightforward. We transitioned to Google Drive because we were all frustrated with our previous option and collectively decided to make a switch.

MY STORAGE ISN'T MAXED OUT
Google Docs keeps telling me my storage is full, even though I've deleted 1 GB of photos and am only using 5 GB of the available 15 GB. Despite my efforts to log in and out, and even restart my laptop, the issue persists. It's incredibly frustrating, especially as I need it for school. It feels like they just want me to pay for more storage.

A Solid Online Office Suite, Yet
The Google Drive is a commendable online office suite, with numerous formatting options and a clean user interface, comparable to MS Office or Libre Office. Its online feature enabling excellent collaboration would have normally earned it a 5-star rating from me. However, I discovered that they read your documents and remove content they disapprove of. This has rendered what could have been an excellent service completely useless. From now on, I and my colleagues will be using self-hosted Libre Office.

Works Well, Requires Offline Mode
I think Google Docs is excellent, but it needs to provide offline support for browsers other than Chrome. It seems like they primarily want us to use Chrome because it doesn't support adblockers, which is likely due to the fact that a significant portion of Google's revenue comes from licensing ad spaces.

Effortless, Comprehensive Cloud Storage Solution
I needed a secure place to store and access documents from any device, and also wanted a system that allowed collaboration. Google Drive turned out to be the perfect solution. It's probably the easiest software for cloud file storage, with apps for various devices. I mostly use the web interface to manage my files and permissions as it has the most comprehensive features. Uploading and sharing files is remarkably easy, and I appreciate the ability to share entire folders. The software can handle multiple file uploads at once and its apps allow syncing with a folder on my computer. It offers generous storage and a simple, affordable payment structure for upgrades. I also love the preview feature for most documents. However, collaboration with users without a Google account is difficult, if not impossible. Also, their API documentation is complicated when trying to implement Google Drive via a custom software product. Lastly, it's not a version control system and recovering a changed or deleted document is not straightforward.

Unparalleled Online Document Management Solution
I have been a satisfied user of Google Drive for over ten years. It provides me with a secure platform to store and share files and documents, and facilitates collaborative work. All my files, including GDocs, GSheets, and Gforms, are conveniently located in one place. The search function, powered by Google's advanced AI algorithms, is fast and efficient, enabling me to quickly find files without having to navigate through folders. Google Drive's first tier is free and provides ample storage for most users. This storage can be used for documents, files, and is shared with Google Photos, among others. I value the integration between Google Drive and GSuite, which simplifies the organization of Docs, Sheets, etc. The ability to edit files online with multiple users is essential for me, as it saves time, ensures we always work on the most recent document version, and eliminates the need to share the latest version via emails. The collaboration features are also very beneficial.
